The Copperjar System™
-
The Copperjar System™ is the brainchild of Paul LaBarge and Alan MacDonald – two leading financial and legal advisors in the country.
Between them, Paul and Alan have more than 50 years of experience in helping people successfully plan and manage their financial affairs.
The Copperjar System™ is the result of their lifetime of experience in observing human behaviour and helping their clients answer the question: how can I regain control of my finances – and my life?
What is The Copperjar System™?
The Copperjar System™ is a personal financial management system that gives people the tools they need to take control of their lives, and make effective and informed decisions about their financial affairs.
Copperjar takes the fear and confusion out of personal finance, by offering a series of clear, practical and concrete steps that can help anyone – single or married, rich or barely scraping by, just starting out or on the cusp of retirement – become financially fit.
The Copperjar System™ is not an investment program or “get rich quick” scheme. It is a tried, tested and proven method for getting your spending under control, helping you make choices that reflect your real goals and values, and setting you on a path to financial independence.
Most importantly, the Copperjar System™ is about putting you in charge of your financial life. As a nation, we are wealthier and more prosperous than our parents ever dreamed. Yet so many of the decisions we make about our finances are based on assumptions that are incomplete, misleading or just plain wrong.
The Copperjar System™ can help you develop the knowledge and confidence to achieve your goals, live well within your means, and enjoy your life free from the stress and anxiety of having to always worry about what the future will hold for you – and for your family.

Why The Copperjar System™?
The world witnessed in September 2008 a collapse in the banking system in the US that threatened to rival the Great Depression. The root cause was the near collapse of the banking system triggered by unprecedented levels of debt. Personal bankruptcies skyrocketed and hundreds of thousands of mortgages went into default. People are in distress over the state of their finances. Companies have collapsed. Pension savings have disappeared and many people originally contemplating early retirement are now facing the prospect of having to rebuild their financial lives. Some are innocent bystanders. Some have been poorly served by the banking and investment industries and some have mismanaged their own affairs.
Why did this happen? The hard learned lessons of the Great Depression generation had been forgotten. Easy consumer and mortgage credit, soaring wage levels and unprecedented economic growth were taken for granted. The warnings of the collapse of the tech market in 2001 were ignored. The gradual export of manufacturing and value added jobs, the growing rust belt and the increasing worldwide competition were substantially ignored as credit was used to maintain unsustainable levels of consumer spending. The philosophy of instant gratification coupled with avoidance or ignorance of basics budgeting and financial management all combined to create the most significant financial shock of the last 80 years.
Copperjar was created in response to the lack of information and systems that support efforts of individuals and families to understand and manage their financial affairs. Copperjar was designed to provide the tools necessary to allow people to take control of their finances and in so doing develop the confidence to manage them on an ongoing basis. Copperjar is a plain language program allows the users to take back ownership and control of their financial future by taking the secrets and confusion out of management of their finances.

In addition to running an investment practice for high-net worth families and individuals, Alan is an entrepreneur with a strong sense of community stewardship. He has been involved with Citizen Advocacy for 10 years, served on the Board of the United Way and coached several high school sports teams.
